1. Our Commitment

CCMO is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all people — especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults — who participate in our programs or interact with our staff and partners. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of abuse, exploitation, or harm.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all CCMO staff, volunteers, consultants, partners, contractors, and representatives — regardless of their location or role. It covers all interactions with program participants, their families, and community members.

3. Key Principles

  • Dignity & Respect: Every person has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Protection: We actively protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults from all forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Accountability: We hold ourselves and our partners accountable for safeguarding practices.
  • Transparency: We have clear procedures for reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns.

4. Types of Abuse Covered

This policy covers all forms of abuse, including but not limited to:

  • Physical abuse — hitting, shaking, or any form of physical harm.
  • Sexual abuse — any form of sexual exploitation or harassment.
  • Emotional/psychological abuse — bullying, humiliation, or verbal abuse.
  • Neglect — failure to provide adequate care, supervision, or basic needs.
  • Financial abuse — exploitation through financial means.
  • Digital abuse — online harassment, exploitation, or grooming.

5. Reporting a Concern

If you or someone you know has experienced or witnessed any form of abuse or harm related to CCMO's work, please report it immediately. You can:

6. Confidentiality

We understand the sensitivity of safeguarding issues. We will protect the privacy of all individuals involved in a safeguarding report to the fullest extent possible, while balancing our duty of care and legal obligations.

7. Recruitment and Vetting

CCMO is committed to safe recruitment practices. All staff, volunteers, and partners undergo:

  • Detailed background checks and reference verification.
  • Safeguarding training and induction.
  • Ongoing monitoring and professional development.

8. Training and Awareness

All CCMO personnel receive regular safeguarding training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and can recognize and respond to safeguarding concerns effectively.

9. Monitoring and Review

This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective and aligned with international best practices and South Sudan's legal framework.
